Finding My Style

Feeling: Rough week, but feeling better now

Updates on my life first, then the website, then my goals for this blog.

I've been clicking around neocities and I really like the blogging culture of the website. People are so nice and willing to share themselves on the internet, let themselves be open for connection. I can't wait until I can start leaving comments, because I am so ready to tell everyone how awesome their site looks. Everyone is so candid, so I'll try and match that tone as well.

(I suppose all that html formatting of ao3 authorship is finally paying off with all these <p> tags lmao!)

This week was a little rough. But it's over, and everything got finished, and I start vacation tomorrow. So hopefully I can make a bit of progress on this website as well! Things I had to deal with: delays on genotyping experiments I was running due to faulty reagents, my media hard drive biting it after only 3 months of use ( >:[ ), AND to top it all off, I returned after a little escape room fun with my coworkers to discover a GIANT CRACK in the windshield of my car. I'll be able to drive home for vacation, but it'll need to be replaced. Hence the mood tag.

Luckily, I hung with my anime club tonight and we're four epsiodes away from finishing Frieren, and I can devour the soundtrack. I'll likely listen to it on my drive home tomorrow, along with a nice big chunk of Friends at the Table's Palisade. The challenge is on: can I finish Palisade before Sangfielle 2 starts?

Now that I'm a bit calmer, I really am liking the way my site is shaping up. The base of the site was of course Sad Grl's incredible FREE layout maker. My knowledge of html goes about as far as the slight tweaks I made to my tumblr. Sad Grl's theme comes with a helpful guide in importing fonts. Rather, I decided to scroll through the google family until I settled on Lora. I like the serif look for blogging. Thanks to this guide I was able to toss the font right into my head tag. Though, fyi, if you decide to import your own google font, make sure you tweak the ampersand in the font link to & amp ; with no spaces. Then you'll be good to go!

As for the colors, I actually took inspiration from my header, which is just a free image of a sunset dithered via dither me this, then cropped to hell and hosted on imgur. I may not be old enough to have lived in the forum age, but thanks to some of my hobbies, I am familiar with bbcode and image hosting. My palettes were a smish smosh of fivepointpalette's Peaches And Plums , and Color Hex's Sunset Sorrows. Though I want my blog to be a happy place :)

So. What do I want for the future of this website? Well, I can think of a couple next steps:

  • Get a proper homepage set up, one with a few more images, an about me section, and more importantly...
  • Buttons! 88x33 are a geocities classic and I want to honor this tradition. Hyperlinks are the bread and butter of cultivating a diverse internet, and buttons are the most adorable way people have figured out how to do this. I want to button up my favorite websites, links to other places I inhabit (to a certain extent--I also like the anonymity here), and links to other neocities sites I find cool.
  • Tutorials and project updates. I am an avid cosplayer, maker, limited coder, and love discovering new projects I can get lost in (including this website lol). I want to share resources for the little things I do here. Though my hard drive failed, a media library is one of my active projects at the moment, and eventually jellyfin server (when I bug amazon to send me a replacement, I hope...).
  • Continue this blog. I want to do more casual posts like this, and then likely more intensive tutorials or resource hubs in the future as well. I have a blog archive page up and running, and am thinking I'll make a similar archive for dedicated tutorials.

So with that, I have a long way to go, but I'm excited to keep fiddling around with this page. XOXO <3 -- Storm
