This poem was part of a series of sonnets I wrote during the summer of 2018. It has been republished here for your reading pleasure.
A Sonnet to the Monarch
April 16th, 2026
I feel like you seem ordinary--how?
For when your flash of orange caught my eye
It made me think of sun, exploding now
As I speak clearly, see there in the sky!
So back to butterflies, then, shall we go
Those monarch ones are so well known!
I fear we take them granted though,
That orange is magnificently shown.
For finally in the tail of spring they come
Reminding us the sun has made it home.
